The UK & Ireland as Taylor Swift songs
ENGLAND: The Archer
“Combat, I’m ready for combat. I say I don’t want that, but what if I do? ‘Cause cruelty wins in the movies, I’ve got a hundred thrown-out speeches I almost said to you.
(…)
I’ve been the archer, I’ve been the prey. Who could ever leave me, darling, but who could stay?
Dark side, I search for your dark side, but what if I’m alright, right, right here? And I cut off my nose just to spite my face, and then I hate my reflection for years and years.
I wake in the night, I pace like a ghost. The room is on fire, invisible smoke. And all of my heroes die all alone, help me hold onto you.
(…)
All the king’s horses, all the king’s men, couldn’t put me together again ‘cause all of my enemies started out friends. Help me hold onto you.”
IRELAND: Mad Woman
“What did you think I’d say to that? Does a scorpion sting when fighting back? They strike to kill, and you know I will. (…)
Every time you call me crazy, I get more crazy. What about that? And when you say I seem angry, I get more angry.
And there’s nothing like a mad woman; what a shame she went mad. No one likes a mad woman; you made her like that. And you poke that bear til the claws come out, and you find something to wrap your noose around. And there’s nothing like a mad woman.
Now I breathe flames each time I talk, my canons all firing at your yacht. They say “move on”, but you know I won’t. And women like hunting witches too, doing your dirtiest work for you. It’s obvious that wanting me dead has really brought you two together.
(…)
I’m taking my time, taking my time, cause you took everything from me. Watching you climb, watching you climb, over people like me. The master of spin has a couple side flings, good wives always know. And she should be mad, should be scathing like me but
No one likes a mad woman.”
NORTHERN IRELAND: Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
“The who’s who of ‘who’s that?’ Is poised for the attack, but my bare hands paved their path. You don’t get to tell me about ‘sad’
(…)
The scandal was contained, the bullet had just grazed. At all costs, keep your good name. You don’t get to tell me you feel bad.
Is it a wonder I broke? Let’s hear one more joke, then we could all just laugh until I cry.
(…)
So tell me everything is not about me, but what if it is? Then say they didn’t do it to hurt me, but what if they did? I wanna snarl and show you just how disturbed this has made me. You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me. So all you kids can sneak into my house with all the cobwebs- I’m always drunk on my own tears, isn’t that what they all said- then I’ll sue you if you step on my lawn. That is fearsome and I’m wretched and I’m wrong. Put narcotics into all of my songs, and that’s why you’re still singing along.
So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street. Crash the wedding like a record scratch as I scream, “Who’s afraid of little old me?” I was tame, I was gentle ‘til the circus life made me mean, “don’t you worry, folks, we took out all her teeth!” Who’s afraid of little old me? Well, you should be.
SCOTLAND: Peace
“But I’m a fire and I’ll keep your brittle heart warm if your cascade ocean-wave blues come. All these people think love’s for show, but i would die for you in secret. The devil’s in the details, but you got a friend in me. Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Your integrity makes me seem small; you paint dreamscapes on the wall, I talk shit with my friends. It’s like I’m wasting your honour.
And you know that I’d swing with you for the fences, sit with you in the trenches. Give you my wild, give you a child. Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other, family that I chose now that I see your brother as my brother. Is it enough?
But there’s robbers to the east, clowns to the west. I’d give you my sunshine, give you my best, but the rain is always gonna come if you’re standing with me.”
WALES: Seven
“Please, picture me in the trees, I hit my peak at seven feet in the swing, over the creek. I was too scared to jump in, but I, I was high in the sky, with Pennsylvania under me, are there still beautiful things?
Sweet tea in the summer. Cross your heart, won’t tell no other. And though I can’t recall your face, I still got love for you. Your braid’s like a pattern, love you to the moon and to Saturn. Passed down like folk songs, the love lasts so long.
And I’ve been meaning to tell you, I think your house is haunted. Your dad is always mad, and that must be why. And I think you should come live with me and we can be pirates, then you won’t have to cry or hide in the closet. And just like a folk song, our love will be passed on.
Please, picture me in the weeds, before I learnt civility. I used to scream ferociously anytime I wanted.”

chapter 3: sparks fly
A/N: i do not encourage cheating. i hope you guys like this chapter!! feedback is always appreciated.
warnings: drinking, smoking, cursing
word count: 1.5k
series masterlist   main masterlist   chapter 2   chapter 4
JFK to Heathrow was a 7 hour flight. Y/N was going to London to promote her new movie with Tom. She wasn’t the lead but was still asked to do so because she was going there to film her new movie over the summer. She reached London at 10 a.m.
She felt exhausted even though she had slept throughout the flight. She hoped that London would give her some peace. New York, her home, came with exhausting people, came with Haz. Every conversation with him was mentally draining for her. London was not New York. London had Tom, who was the opposite of Haz.
Haz was someone who would walk into a room and make everyone aware of his presence. He would make sure that he had the upper hand over everything. He was insecure, and anyone who really knew him could tell, but he would try his best to hide it by being a cocky, confident version of himself. That might have made people believe that he was arrogant or obnoxious but Y/N knew that deep down, he was still trying to navigate through the world and that in particular, made Haz so charming.
Tom, on the other hand, was quiet about his confidence. He was the kind of person who just walked into a room and didn’t have to be arrogant to have all eyes on him. There was something beaming from within him that he probably couldn’t even control that made people turn their heads. When you see him, you just feel like walking over to him and talking to him for hours.
He felt like enjoying your favourite song without turning the volume up. You could enjoy his company even with comfortable silence because he knew who he was and didn't brag about it. Y/N found this to be the most interesting quality in him. It’s not his charm or valour, it’s him.
Y/N was unpacking for the summer, when she got a call from Tom. “Hey Tom”, she was happy to hear his voice.
“A little birdie told me that you’re here”, he said.
“Huh?” she was confused.
“Greta, I mean I heard from Greta that you’re here, in London”
“Yeah, I got in few hours ago”
“Where are you staying?”
“I’m renting an apartment in Camden”
“Oh, I-um, I was wondering if you wanna grab a pint with me?” He took ages to finish the sentence and it took seconds for Y/N to agree.
“Yess! I mean, great, I’ll text you the address” it was hard for him to contain his excitement.
Tom reached the pub before Y/N. He was on his second pint when Y/N entered. He was sitting in a booth, going through his phone. Tom stood up when he saw her walking over towards him. “You look beautiful,” Tom said in amazement. When Y/N laughed at his words he realised he said it out loud.
“Thanks” she said with a smile. They both sat down a few inches away from each other.
“What do you wanna drink?”
Y/N’s phone was ringing, it was Haz.
“How about you get me a pint and I’ll take this call, what do you say?”
“Okay”, he said and got up.
Y/N went outside the pub to take the call. It was drizzling outside, wondering which version of Haz she was going to get, she lit a cigarette. Was it going to be the man she married or the man who was consumed by jealousy?
“Hey love”, a soft spoken Haz was met on the other side of the phone.
“Hi” she replied with politeness, taking a long drag.
“Did you reach London safely?” She could hear the genuine concern in his voice.
She blew out the smoke, “yeah, I ended up getting the Camden apartment.”
“That’s good, anyway, I called you because I wanted to let you know that I signed an ad campaign. They are filming it in London so I’ll be there for a few weeks in July. “
“That’s amazing Haz”, a group of women came out of the pub laughing loudly.
“Are you out somewhere?”
“Yeah I’m out for drinks”
“Oh okay, I’ll let you get back to it then” he hung up.
Y/N dropped her cigarette butt and stepped on it. She didn’t know how to feel about the interaction. She went back in, Tom was waiting for her with their glasses.
“Who was it?” He asked, taking a sip of his beer.
“It was just Haz”
“How are things with Haz, if you don’t mind me asking?” Tom was aware of the turbulence in their relationship from on-set gossip.
“We’re-umm“, Y/N took some time to condense all of the things she felt about Haz into a simple sentence for him.
“We’re not that good”
Tom noticed her sad eyes.
“Well enough about me, what have you been up to? How’s your family?” She said with a burst of energy.
“Ah-hum”, he let out a little sigh.
“My life hasn’t really been that exciting since I came back from New York, one might even call it dry. It’s just work and pub. That’s it. But, my dad is working on a new book and my mum is trying to get my little brother into acting too”
“I wish I had a little brother”
“No you don’t, they’re like your personal monsters who you can’t hate because you are conditioned to love them”
She laughed, their eyes locked, filled with fondness for the other. She looked down at her empty glass, taking note of the sparks flying around them.
“Have you been to Ireland?” she asked in an attempt to neutralise the chemical reaction they both felt.
“Nope I haven’t, which is weird ‘cause it’s very close to England”
“I wanna go and just get drunk on Guinness there. It’s on my bucket list”
“Cute. You have a bucket list”
They were getting closer to each other with every word they spoke.
“Everyone has a bucket list. Maybe we should go to Ireland together”, Y/N suggested.
“Don’t. Don’t make empty promises”, they were both buzzed. He put his hand on her thigh, subconsciously.
“What if I’m not”, she said in an almost whisper. Y/N’s sight kept alternating from his eyes to his lips. They looked irresistible. They were inching in closer. Finally Tom filled the gap with his lips on Y/N’s.
A lyrical smile came on Tom's face. Y/N deepened into the kiss, her hand laced in his hair, pulled him closer to her. He broke away, “as much as I would like to continue this, I think we should follow the spark somewhere else”
Y/N looked around the swamp of half-drunk people and sighed.
“Fine, but I’ll drive”
Tom obliged and gave her his car keys.
—-
What Y/N had thought was as a onetime thing, became a pastime. Y/N decided to take the road less travelled by. The road of infidelity, which was covered with wild ivy. The ivy, named Tom, groped her further and further, with every step she took. She started to fall in love with him, with each clandestine meeting.
He would come over to her house, each night, with his hood over his head, making sure nobody saw him leave. They would try to find places, away from the prying eyes of people and hunters with smartphones. Every time, before Tom kissed her, he would say, “you know we can always stop” and every time she would think that she couldn’t because his magnetic field was drawing her in, deeper and deeper.
Tom was scared, not because of people finding out, but because he thought a day would come when Y/N would realise that this is all wrong and pull the plug. With her, he never thought that they were out of the woods, the thrill always lingered in the air. Sometimes he wondered if the drug of the thrill would stop working after the first few times.
They would stare at each other with longing, during interviews. What they thought were stolen glances, weren’t going unnoticed by the media. There were speculations around them. After every panel, a new rumour was born and each rumour caused a new fight between Y/N and Haz.
After every fight, Y/N would knock on Tom's garden gate, crying. Y/N had her guard up all the time. For the rest of the world, she was meticulous with every word she said but with Tom, it was no good.
Every step she took with Tom, she wondered if Haz knew. Did Haz know that he was right not to trust her? With every step Tom took with Y/N, he wondered if she knew how much in love with her he was. Did she know that he was ready to carve her name on his bedpost as the last one?
They both wondered if the other knew that they were ready to ruin themselves for each other a million little times.

10 + 10
I realised after I had posted this that I did it on a reblog that was already pretty long... so I have now done a separate post to try and make it smaller! Sorry!
I was tagged twice to do this and was writing out my answers when Coop tagged me AGAIN!! So I am sorry to all of you, this is long and you're going to learn more about me than you probably wanted to!!
Answer 10 questions then add 10 of your own:
@lucynnamonroll thank you for the first Tag flower!
1. A dream that you still remember?
I dreamt once that someone was chasing me and my dog and they bit me, took a big chunk out of my arm. And then my dog gave me this big blue fruit and my arm grew back. My dreams are always very strange.
2. What job did you want to do when you were younger?
I wanted to be a vet but I am way too emotional around poorly animals and also not smart enough to learn how to treat them haha!
3. And now? Did it has changed?
Yeah, I don't think I was ever cut out to be a vet. I'd like to work with animals though, maybe kennels or something? Zoo Keeper would be cool.
4. A favorite game?
I'm gonna take this as video game... There are a lot. I love Mass Effect and Dragon age, Gears of War... but Horizon Zero Dawn was amazing. I loved every single thing about it. Beautiful game, great story – just.. chefs kiss
5. Where did you have traveled? (Either it’s in your country or not)
I've been a few places- France, Spain, Somewhere else hot but I can't recall where... Ireland, Scotland. I was supposed to have gone to Bulgaria at the beginning of May but Coronavirus done fucked me over.
6. Did you have a totem animal/a favorite animal?
Ever since I was about 6 wolves have been my favourite animals. I originally started drawing so I could create a wolf fursona …. siiigghhh
7. Did you/Do you have a teddy bear to help you to sleep? How it was looking?
Yes, a little dog called Custard. He is a beige colour with brown ears but is still in pretty good condition. He sits on my desk chair when I'm not using it.
8. THE animated (or not) serie of your childhood/teenage years?
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – heroes in a half shell, turtle power!! I was also hella into Dragon Ball Z on Toonami when I was a kid. I remember we went to see some family up north and they didn't have Toonami and I cried because it was mid way through the Buu arc and I was gonna miss it.
9. Do you have anime/series/movie/whatever things merch?
I have a few bits. A Hatake Kakashi figure, one for Katakuri and Zoro. A heart Pirates hoodie. I think I have Kid's wanted poster somewhere...
10. How was your day?
Oh. It was a day. I slept through most of it. My energy/motivation levels are pretty low at the moment. But it was sunny, so that was nice.
@luffytarhoe thank you for my second tag!! 💙
1- What’s your favorite show/anime of the moment ?
I don't watch a huge amount of anime despite the focus of this blog. So probably One piece on that front. Otherwise I am watching Outlander atm, which is pretty good but there is sooooo much sex. An ungodly amount of sex.
2- What type of music are you into?
My music tastes are quite varied. I like stuff that you can listen to and put into a situation, so usually sad stuff where I can imagine I am the main character weeping over the bodies of my fallen comrades. Also Goo Goo Dolls!
3- If you could have one superpower , what would it be ?
Probability, or luck. Like Domino in Deadpool. That's always been such a cool concept to me.
4- What’s your favorite color ?
Blue and all it's hues. Maybe teal if I had to get specific.
5- Do you prefer animated or live action shows/series ?
I am happy with both. Though some animated shows should stay animated – looking at you ATLA...
6- Do you believe in ghosts ?
I believe that energy never disappears, only changes forms and I don't think that's any different for whatever happens to people energy once we die. I'm a big wimp though so it's easier for me not to believe in them!
7- Do you speak any foreign language(s) ? if yes which ones ?
No, sadly I never had a talent for languages. I'd love to speak Gaelic though.
8- Your n°1 fictional character ?
Probably Stone from the Raksura book series. He's just a fun grumpy old shapeshifting man.
9- Would you say you’re more of an extrovert or an introvert?
Definitely an introvert. I like me time. And all my hobbies are single person hobbies so that doesn't help haha.
10- What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
I haven't been on holiday in over 10 years but we went to a zoo in Spain once and a Monkey sat on my head. That was pretty rad.
@doctorgerth and finally, thank you for my 3rd tag!!
1. What are your zodiac signs (sun, moon, rising, if you know them) and do you think they fit you pretty well?
I am an Aries and that is pretty much the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Aries are meant to be pretty hot headed and outgoing and I can only really claim to be one of those thing and only when I need to be. So no, I'm not sure it fits me.
2. What is your favorite clothing item and/or accessory?
I don't reallllly care a lot about clothes and or stuff. So I guess either my glasses because I need them to see long distances (and to drive) or my phone if that counts as an accessory because that has all my crap on it.
3. Any future children or pet names?
Noooooooooooooo and no
4. If you could meet anyone (can be past, present, future, real, or fictional) who would it be?
I would have liked to have met Steve Irwin I think. He seemed pretty chill and I grew up watching Crocodile Hunter on TV so he was a big hero of mine for a long time. Also the Rock or Jason Mamoa because of reasons....
5. Brag on yourself! What’s something you love about yourself?
I am passably amusing and guess I write okay too haha
6. What is a movie or show that you could rewatch a million times and never get tired of?
The film Evolution is endlessly funny to me and it makes me laugh every time I watch it. I used to have it on VHS and I kept a video player in the house to watch it until my cousin got it for me on DVD (Yes I am old.)
7. What is your favorite album of all time?
I haven't listened to it in a long time but I really loved Maroon 5 – Songs about Jane.
8. Do you believe in ghosts and/or aliens? If you have stories to back up, plz share.
I want to belllieeveeeeee! Ghosts, yes, hesitantly but I think I answered that in a previous one. Aliens 100% because I refuse to believe that we are the only sentient life the universe. It's just... statistically impossible.
9. What do you do/who do you look to for inspiration?
I guess human being wise my mum is my inspiration for a lot of things? She's just a lovely person and she's very kind and sweet. I am very aware that we are not much alike, but I look to her as the sort of example of a good person. Creativity wise it's just a clusterfuck of books and badly organised pinterest boards.
10. What is your happiest memory?
Practically anything that has my nephews in it I guess. They're just... hilariously weird little dudes and I love them so much. They always make me laugh.
And here are my questions!!
1. What is your favourite book?
2. What is you most loved item and why?
3. If you got the chance to travel to another planet (knowing you would never see your friends or family again) would you do it?
4. One song that makes you cry?
5. Do you believe in supernatural stuff? Ghosts and Monsters and Fairies? Any experiences with it?
6. What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever witnessed or had happen to you?
7. What one thing would you buy if you had the money?
8. What is your worst habit/personality trait?
9. If you could alter your body with one cool feature, what would it be? (camera eyes, monkey tail, etc)
10. Do you have the patience to play a full game of Monopoly with no breaks?
I'll tag @pinkhatlizzy @nakunakunomi @lirulee @one-piece-dumpster-fire and anyone else who wants to answer my dumb questions!! Tag me because if you decide to do it so I can see your answers 💙

Gary Lightbody has not had a proper girlfriend in eight years. He’s the lead singer in Snow Patrol, a handsome rock star known for great anthems such as Run and Chasing Cars, but still he’s single. ‘It doesn’t really make sense, does it?’ says Lightbody with a wry smile, running a hand through his longish black hair.
Snow Patrol are about to make a comeback with new album Wildness after a long time away – roughly as long as he has been single – but they are still one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Lightbody can connect with whole stadiums full of people as if he was singing to them one at a time, so why does he have nobody to connect with as a partner?
‘Ah, I wasn’t a great boyfriend. I cheated and I was shut down emotionally. All the clichés of terrible boyfriends. So I wanted to sort myself out before I started anything with anyone. That coincided with us coming off tour seven years ago. And I started drinking heavily. And I thought that was another reason not to get involved with anyone. I didn’t want them to be with me in this mess…’ The deeper truth is that when the touring stopped, Lightbody, 41, got lost in a fog of drink, drugs and depression. ‘The last tour of America was very tough. We were all just tired of each other’s company. No one could see the funny side of anything any more. We’d been doing album, tour, album, tour, album, tour, album, tour. So on that last one everybody was in the middle of a nervous breakdown at some point. We sort of swapped nervous breakdowns.’They had been together since their days at Dundee University in the early Nineties and had slogged away as a band for a whole decade without any success, before sudden global fame brought a relentless schedule. ‘You can’t stop anything, you have to keep moving and it’s all organised a long way in advance. I would look in the diary to see when we had some time off and I would count the days.
He makes the rock ’n’ roll life sound like a prison. ‘It’s a really bad way of living your life. We were going to burn out at some point. Everybody was like, “I just want to see the finish line, I don’t care about anyone else.” It became a toxic environment.’
When Snow Patrol collapsed, exhausted in 2012, the plan was for them to take a year or two away from each other. Lightbody had a side project going with members of REM and he moved to Los Angeles to try to break into the movies. ‘That was much harder than I expected. I went into movie studios for meetings, not realising that’s the perfect way to get nothing done in LA. You get smoke blown up your a***, then they show you out the door and you’re never thought of again.’
In the meantime, he was drinking. ‘I’m told I was always a pretty good drunk. I was never aggressive or anything like that. Then it turned darker when I was in LA. Most of my friends there had kids or they were recovering alcoholics, so not a lot of them drank that much, if at all. I was wanting to be out every night, so I would go out on my own. And that’s when I realised I couldn’t stop. It was horrible to go a day without drinking.’
Crippled with self-loathing, he thought about ‘not existing’ – but had not got as far as working out how to actually end his life when a nasty infection gave him a jolt. ‘The doctor was like, “Whatever you’re doing, don’t do that!”’
The infection was in his ears and throat and also both sinuses. The doctor wanted to operate but Lightbody sought a gentler option. ‘A friend of mine, Gabrielle, is an acupuncturist and she was like, “Give me a month and we can fix this. But no drinking.”’
That was a huge challenge, but he saw it as a matter of life and death. ‘On my 40th birthday I was dry. I went back to the doctor after a month of getting treatment with Gabrielle, three times a week. He did the CT scan again and it was clear.’
To maintain his health, Lightbody now employs a strict routine. ‘I’m very vigilant. I have to do certain things every day. I have to meditate, I have to do my qigong [exercises], I have to go to the gym. If I don’t do those things, I start to feel the shadow.’
Part of his return to health has been writing songs with other people – including Taylor Swift, One Direction and Ed Sheeran. ‘Ed is unlike any other musician I’ve ever known,’ he says. ‘You sit in a room with him and he’ll write ten songs in a few hours. It’s a thing of magic, really. He is in tune with his muse, his guitar bends to his will.’
Sheeran also writes with fellow band member Johnny McDaid, a highly accomplished producer outside Snow Patrol who has written for movies including Just Before I Go, the first film directed by Courteney Cox. The pair started dating four years ago and are due to be married this summer in Malibu. Is it a bit weird for Lightbody that his mate is engaged to Monica from Friends? ‘Ha! No, it doesn’t freak me out at all. She’s so down-to-earth and lovely. Not in a million years would you ever think, “You’re a star.”’
The new album features proper big Snow Patrol blockbusters but there are also haunting ballads, including one called Soon. It’s about his father Jack, who has Alzheimer’s. ‘I can’t wait to sing it live,’ he says.
Will that be difficult? ‘When he’s there, maybe.’ Lightbody’s eyes start to fill up as he recalls the last time he sang in front of his father, in Dublin a few years ago. The song Lifening made reference to wanting to be a father like his own. ‘Everyone cheered the line and I looked over at him standing at the side of the stage and he was smiling. I went over and got him and the place went nuts.’ Lightbody fights back real tears. ‘I stood in the middle of the stage with him and he turned to me and whispered in my ear, “Well this is great, isn’t it?” I was just like, oh my God! It was perfect. The feeling of sadness I’m having right now is the feeling I was having then, until he said that, and then I just laughed and laughed.’
Is he worried for himself? ‘Yeah. That’s where the line in the song comes in: “Soon you’ll not remember anything. Some day neither will I.” My memory has never been very good. I don’t remember my own song lyrics most of the time. So yeah, I think about that. A lot of this record is about memory. Maybe there’s something of my childhood in there.’
And he’s come full circle, because Lightbody has left LA and is back living in Northern Ireland again. ‘When I left for university I was happy to go. But when I finally bought a house there, in my 30s, I fell deeply in love with the place again. Northern Ireland is amazing. We punch well above our weight in sport, in music, culturally, all the art forms. We are a small country that gives a lot out to the world and it’s something to be proud of. So when I moved back, I did it out of love. I understood the place better. And its peace. Northern Ireland is a different place now.’
Gary Lightbody looks down at his hands and smiles, having found a peace of his own. ‘I’m in a very different place now myself…’
‘Wildness’ is out on Friday
